During 2017 and 2018 Phase 1 development of the Sheffield Retail Quarter regenerated the area of land between Furnival Gate and Cambridge Street. It was dominated by a new office building for HSBC. Phase 1 development was brought forward by the City Council in recognition of the importance of HSBC to the city. During development the site housed three red tower cranes each topped with a red light. A temporary but striking landmark. Visible from across the city, night and day. To anyone and everyone.
